Barbados Rum Punch Recipe

Barbados Rum Punch

The island's sweet-and-sour rum punch, finished with bitters and a heavy grating of nutmeg.

Ingredients

How to Make It

  1. Stir the lime juice and the sugar syrup together in a highball glass until dissolved.
  2. Add the rum and the water, then fill the glass with ice.
  3. Stir well until the outside of the glass turns cold.
  4. Add the bitters, grate nutmeg over the top and garnish with the orange slice.

Garnish

Freshly grated nutmeg and an orange slice.

The Story

Widely regarded as the national drink of Barbados and built on the old island rhyme: one of sour, two of sweet, three of strong, four of weak. The dash of bitters and the nutmeg on top are treated there as essential.
