Berliner Weisse mit Schuss

A tart, foaming Berlin wheat beer sweetened with a shot of raspberry or woodruff syrup, ending up light, fruity and refreshingly sour.

Ingredients

How to Make It

  1. Chill a large, bowl-shaped goblet.
  2. Pour the raspberry syrup into the bottom of the glass.
  3. Slowly pour the Berliner Weisse down the side of the glass to keep the foam under control.
  4. Stir once gently to blend the colour and serve with a straw.

Garnish

None; traditionally served with a wide straw.

The Story

Berliner Weisse is a tart, low-alcohol wheat beer long brewed in Berlin. Serving it 'mit Schuss' — with a shot of raspberry or woodruff syrup — became the classic way to round off its sourness.
