Limonata (Turkish Lemonade) Recipe

Limonata (Turkish Lemonade)

A cloudy, zest-forward Turkish lemonade whose whole-lemon base gives it a rounder, more perfumed bite than a plain juice-and-sugar mix.

Ingredients

How to Make It

  1. Rub the lemon peel into the sugar in a jug and leave it a minute so the oils release.
  2. Add the lemon juice and stir until the sugar has completely dissolved.
  3. Pour in the cold water, lift out the peel and fill a highball with ice.
  4. Strain over the ice, stir once and garnish with mint.

Garnish

A sprig of fresh mint and a lemon wheel

The Story

A fixture of Turkish homes, streets and meyhane tables in summer, limonata is set apart by a simple habit: the whole lemon, peel included, goes into the drink rather than just its juice.
