What Does Dreaming of a Belly Mean?
Traditional Interpretation
In traditional interpretation and according to Ibn Sirin, the belly represents one's family, wealth, secrets, and religious life; the belly growing larger and more beautiful may point to expanding provision and more children, while its shrinking may indicate a decrease in wealth or in family bonds. A healthy child emerging from the belly may signify a blessed offspring, while an excessively swollen belly, alongside wealth, may according to some accounts be interpreted as toil or hardship.
Psychological View
In modern psychology, the belly is often read as the seat of swallowed emotions, experiences that "cannot be digested," and the body's intuitive center (Jung's realm of the instinctual self); a bellyache or swelling may be a bodily expression of anxiety accumulating in the unconscious or of an unresolved problem. From a Freudian perspective, the belly can be associated with satisfaction, plenty, and desires carried within.
