Bendora

Bendora is an iPhone conduit bending calculator for electricians. It draws every bend on the pipe to scale — which mark, how far from the end, arrow or star — for offsets, 90° stub-ups, 3-point and 4-point saddles, kicks, rolling offsets, back-to-back 90s and segmented 90s. No account, and your jobs stay on the iPhone.

Bendora is an iPhone app for conduit bending: offset, 90° stub, saddle and rolling offset marks drawn on the pipe, with your bender's take-up and gain.

Features

  • Offset, 90° stub-up, 3-point saddle and kick calculations free; 4-point saddle, rolling offset, back-to-back 90 and segmented (large-radius) 90 in Pro
  • Every result is drawn on a to-scale pipe: mark order, distance from the pipe end, and whether the bender's arrow or star goes on the mark
  • Exact trigonometry for any angle (multiplier = 1/sin θ, shrink = tan(θ/2) per unit of depth), with a multiplier and shrink table for 10°, 22.5°, 30°, 45° and 60°
  • Bender profiles: EMT, IMC or rigid, trade size, and your bender's own take-up and gain, used by every stub and back-to-back
  • Inches with 1/16 fractions or millimetres, typed as 6 3/8 or 162
  • Job log: save every bend to a job and reopen it later with the same marks; no account, everything stays on the iPhone

Questions

How do you calculate a conduit offset?

Multiply the offset depth by the multiplier for your bend angle (1/sin θ: 30° is 2, 45° is 1.414, 22.5° is 2.613) to get the distance between the two marks, and add the shrink (depth × tan(θ/2), about 1/4 inch per inch at 30°) to the first mark when bending toward the obstacle. Bendora does this for any angle and draws both marks on the pipe.

What is take-up on a conduit bender?

Take-up is the amount you subtract from the stub height to find the mark for a 90° stub-up: for a typical 1/2 inch EMT hand bender it is 5 inches, 3/4 inch EMT 6 inches, 1 inch EMT 8 inches. It varies by bender, so Bendora lets you enter the value printed on yours.

How do you bend a 3-point saddle?

The common method uses a 45° center bend and two 22.5° outer bends. The center mark goes at the obstacle's center plus shrink (about 3/16 inch per inch of height); the outer marks sit 2.6 times the obstacle height on each side (the field rule rounds it to 2.5). Bendora computes the exact distances for your height and angle.

How do you calculate a rolling offset?

Treat the rise and the roll as two sides of a right triangle: the true offset is the square root of rise² + roll², and you bend a normal offset of that depth with the bender rotated so the offset points diagonally. Bendora gives the true offset, the marks and the rotation angle.

Is Bendora free?

Offset, 90° stub-up, 3-point saddle, kick and the multiplier table are free, with one bender profile and one job. Pro, a weekly, monthly or yearly subscription or a one-time lifetime purchase, adds the 4-point saddle, rolling offset, back-to-back and segmented 90 bends, unlimited bender profiles and jobs; the yearly plan starts with a 3-day free trial.

How it works

Pick the bend, enter the measurements in inches (to 1/16) or millimetres, and Bendora shows the marks on a drawing of the pipe, then the bent pipe itself. The math is exact trigonometry for any angle: multiplier (cosecant), shrink, saddle centre shift, rolling offset true offset and rotation, gain and segment spacing. Your bender profile holds EMT, IMC or rigid size, take-up and gain, so every stub uses your own numbers. Save bends to a job and reopen them later with the same marks. Offset, stub-up, 3-point saddle and kick are free with one bender profile and one job; Bendora Pro unlocks the 4-point saddle, rolling offset, back-to-back and segmented 90, and unlimited profiles and jobs.

Bendora gives calculated marks. Check the first bend on scrap and follow your bender maker’s instructions and local code.
