What Does Dreaming of a Knife Mean?
Traditional Interpretation
In traditional interpretation, especially according to Ibn Sirin and Imam Jafar al-Sadiq, the knife may mostly point to a child, power, provision, and a decisive resolution to be made on some matter; it can also mean separation, disagreement, or a close rival. Drawing the knife from its sheath and holding it is interpreted as esteem, gain, and enduring strength, while cutting something with a knife may point to wealth coming into one's hands or to a journey.
Psychological View
In modern psychology (Jung), the knife can often be a symbol of the need for self-protection, for drawing boundaries, and for "cutting something off"—of the sharp, resolute, or repressed angry side within (the shadow). In the Freudian reading, as a piercing, sharp object, it can be associated with power, intervention, and sexual or aggressive drives.
