What Does Dreaming of a Door Mean?
Traditional Interpretation
In traditional interpretation and according to Ibn Sirin, a door is mostly an auspicious symbol; an open door can indicate provision, new opportunity, and relief from troubles, while the door of a house may point to the person who manages that household's affairs. Seeing the door open can signify comfort and ample livelihood, while seeing it closed or locked may be interpreted as a secret being kept, or a difficulty that may continue for a time.
Psychological View
From a modern psychological perspective (Jung), a door can represent the passage from one phase of life to another, the threshold opening onto the unconscious, and inner potentials yet to be discovered. Whether the door is open or closed can indicate how ready one feels for a new beginning, opportunity, or change; at times it may also point to one's willingness to face suppressed desires and fears.
By Context
An Open Door
Can indicate provision opening up, a new chance, or a relief such as a promotion at work.
A Closed / Locked Door
Can point to a hidden secret, an obstacle that may persist for a while, or a period requiring patience.
For Singles (according to Ibn Sirin)
A locked door may be interpreted as referring to unmarried young women, and an open door to widowed women; closing one door and opening another can be taken as a sign of change in a romantic relationship.
By the Color of the Door
A white door may be interpreted as relief from trouble, a red door as provision opening up, and a black door as saddening news.
