In traditional interpretation, especially according to Ibn Sirin, the cat is most often associated with a member of the household, or with a thief or troublemaker let into the home; a large cat may point to a servant, and a small cat to a child. A cat stealing something from the house can be taken as a small loss or as distrust in one's close circle, while a gentle cat may point to a mild-mannered friend.
Psychological View
In modern psychology and in the Jungian approach, the cat is often seen as an archetype symbolizing feminine energy (the anima), intuition, the desire for independence, and repressed emotions. The cat in a dream may be bringing to the surface one's need for freedom, trust in one's own inner intuition, or emotional sides not yet put into words.
